It was a Happy,
Happy Birthday!! Red blue, yellow, green, orange,
pink, and purple balloons were tied to the trees,
tables, and posts surrounding the picnic and bandstand
area at Torrance Park on Sunday afternoon, July
18th. “Happy Birthday” banners waving
with the breeze, welcomed everyone to Save Historic
Old Torrance’s first birthday party. Drifting
through the warm summer air were the melodious tones
provided by the band, The Free Agents. Amid all
this, were games for the kids (with prizes), cake
and punch, and a fun raffle, as well as neighbors,
Torrance City Council Members and even Assemblyman,
George Nakano. Torrance Bakery provided the beautiful
and delicious cakes: one chocolate and one white
for the occasion. Everyone had a great time eating,
visiting and swaying to the music. And of course,
it culminated with the drawing of the winning raffle
tickets. Raffle prizes were donated by many, many
local businesses and neighbors. Some of the highlights
were the autographed copy of Louis Zamperini’s
book, Devil at My Heels, two tickets to an Angel’s
game, one year free checking account with the checks
from Wells Fargo, the Wells Fargo ponies, dinner
at Pei Wei’s, Collector’s Edition Barbie
(s), a three year paid subscription to American
Bungalow Magazine and so much more! What a day!
Thank you to everyone helped make the party a success.
And thank you for being a part of the organization
that is raising public awareness of the treasures
in our own Torrance and the need to preserve those
treasures .Together,
let’s see what we can do before we turn two.
