A treasure
worth preserving. The homes you view are each in some
phase of restoration. These modest homes were built for
working people of Torrance between 1912-1929. Historic
preservation joins ”Green Building” as the
original ideal was to blend the home with nature using
natural products. Today historic restoration compliments
“Green Building” both with natural products
and with “recycled” parts: flooring, windows,
even bath tubs from scheduled demolitions. Each of the
historic homes you see today is not just an old house;
to each of the owners, it’s a treasure! Each values
the quality and craftsmanship that when into the historic
home, and each has chosen to embrace the “caretaker”
role for the home so that it will not only be enjoyed
by them, but generations to come. For each that means
a major project of renovation and restoration. And the
“Whimsical Home” by artistic duo, the Meyers
is a “must see.” These homes demonstrate that
we must “Save Historic Old Torrance” for the
kids of tomorrow.
